There are serious problems with being both american and christian, because the life styles are COMPLETE OPPOSITE. I haven't personally seen this problem in our church, but in a church i used to go to.

The American Dream

The american dream is the dream life. Be served by all others. Do what you want, when you want, without worrying about work. Sleep with as many girls as possible to tell the guys who "scored" the most. Arrogance and cruelty to those who serve you is usually involved. Treating people as if they were a dog that had just bitten you is more common than treating them like a human being. Being in total control, not depending on God to provide.

The Christian Dream

Serve all others. Put up with abuse from other people. Depending on God to provide for you, AKA living in faith. Living poorly and still being rich. Studying hard on what God wants you to do. Bringing others to God.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Studying what God wants you to do can be very hard though, i know i have TONS of trouble figuring it out.

Good post Jason! You are right on the money. Everyday at my job I am surrounded by people who are obsessed with living up to the "American Dream," but what they don't realize is that that the pursuit of this is completely and utterly pointless. It is not a sin to have a lot of money, or to work hard, or to have goals, but when we let those things replace God's calling for our lives, than we are missing the point. When we get to Heaven, God is not going to care about what kind of car we drove, or how big our house was, or how much money we aquired. What He is going to care about is how we used our lives to further His kingdom. A God-centered lifestyle is the only thing that brings true satisfaction.

I love 1 Tim. 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
